It’s been one year since I started the podcast! Thanks for listening! Last week I was out in Pierre with my buddy Jeremy Williams for a training class. I suggested we go shoot prairie dogs in the Fort Pierre National Grassland the day before. I had done this many times, he never had. We talk about that, shooting, our love of Mexican food, and we sip whiskey out of hotel paper coffee cups.

Former USPSA President, current USPSA presidential candidate, Yee-Min Lin was at Area 3 in Nebraska and I was able to catch up with him to record a podcast. We had a great conversation. Other topics: Going from Western Kentucky to Yale to Iraq in the Marine Corps, how we got into USPSA, why Yee-Min is running again after being removed on a selectively enforced technicality, how clubs deal with their home ranges, our thoughts on Area 3 shooting and working, Multigun Nationals, and I ask him why people should vote for him in the special election runoff.

Josh Vanden Top is a shooting buddy, a dad, a designer of tooling, and self-identifies as a 3-gunner. He and I both shot at USPSA Multigun Nationals in Forest Lake Minnesota in late July, and he was a storm chaser. We talk a lot of shooting, but we also talk about dad life, storm chasing, and how he designs tools that someone makes so other people can make other stuff with the tools (I think I understood that).

One of many great people I’ve met shooting, Bruce Schmidt is a husband, seller of HVAC supplies, and a USPSA shooter and match director. We started this one off well oiled so be ready for a good time. We talked whiskey, shooting, and the massive new range planned to be built just north of Rapid City. Other topics covered: Bruce’s beard, homeless redbeard in Alabama, downtown Rapid is pretty cool now, the path from oil changer to expert HVAC sales master, Andy forgot something at the range that could have gotten someone a felony charge, what the hell are neutrinos, the best tourist traps in Black Hills.

I did not have a guest this week as last week I was super busy preparing the Great Plains Section Championship USPSA match. It was held in Canton and it was a lot of work. Hear the good, bad, and the stupid. Including hard to open beer.

Robert Wyatt lives in the Salt Lake City area, is co-host of the PARAcast podcast (Spotify, Apple), and designs homes for a living. He’s also a rabid USPSA shooter, like me. We mostly talk shooting, but we also talked a fair bit about our Vietnam veteran fathers, and he started designing homes at 13 and still does. Topics covered: heinous safety violations, why our right ears our losing hearing, getting accidentally shot at, the PARAcast’s podcast is not about ghosts, Mormons are preppers? reloading mistakes and good advice we didn’t listen to, how to record podcasts, the USPSA coup d’etat, and much more.

I met Dustin back in 2016 when we were going to start teaching classes at a now defunct gun shop in Harrisburg. Then he and the other guys on the board at Sioux River Sportsmen’s Club volun-told me to join the board, of which Dustin is the president. He’s a husband, a dad, a woodworker, cabinet installer, enthsiast of meticulous things that are hard to do, and he drove 500 miles with one broken rifle to hunt deer.

My buddy Tyler is back on the podcast. My friend Jeff King is back on the podcast. After technical difficulties and too much to drink, we went for three hours. We go over some missed details of his Guadalcanal trip which was heavily covered in Episode 13, we talk a fair bit about shooting and USPSA, Andy’s broken arm, and lots of other stuff. It got a little wild.
