Back in 2015, when Tasha and I were doing the old morning show, Patrick Sayegh contacted us about something we were talking about. He is a resident of Paris, France but had recently returned home from a two year stint in Brookings to help build a cheese factory. He listened to us a little bit on his brief commutes to work. When he got home he started listening to our whole show in his office. We have been online pen pals ever since. This podcast is the first day we had ever met him in person. It was a lot of fun!

Ep 051 – My Speech From Dad’s Funeral

Dad's funeral was this past Thursday, August 31, 2023. My family has received dozens of messages, social media comments, and other incredible tributes written and sent to us, which was eye opening. We had no idea how much he meant to other people and how many people he touched. As I was working on the obituary, Mom said "We need to make fun of him, too." So that's what this episode is. You will hear Sydney Powers, my nieces best friend and friend of Dad's, read a number of the kind notes that were sent to us. Then I tell several fun stories about Dad.

Next week I will return to normal episodes and celebrate the one year anniversary of the podcast! For my regular listeners, thank you for listening and allowing me to use this passion project of mine to also be some sort of catharsis.

My dad, Tom Erickson, was driving to Sioux Falls on old 77, nine miles north of Beresford, when a man driving a giant tractor hauling silage, blew through the stop sign and collided with his car. He died on impact. I speak for a couple of minutes about how great Dad was, and then I play the episode I recorded with him back in March. Mourn with me for the first few minutes, then laugh along with us as I hang out with my dad and hear him tell stories in the way that only he could.
